Overview

The Environmental Innovation & Greening Scheme supports initiatives that contribute to environmental sustainability, climate action, biodiversity protection, resource efficiency, and improved environmental practices in Gozo. The scheme promotes practical, non-commercial initiatives that deliver tangible environmental benefits and encourage environmental responsibility within the community.

 

The scheme aims to:

 

• Support environmental projects that deliver measurable environmental benefits in Gozo.
• Promote community participation in environmental protection and sustainable practices.
• Increase awareness of environmental responsibility and climate action.
• Support biodiversity conservation and environmental enhancement initiatives.
• Encourage innovative solutions that improve environmental quality and resource efficiency.

 

The scheme is divided into two strands:

 

Strand 1: Greening and Environmental Sustainability Initiatives Supports practical environmental interventions such as greening projects, biodiversity enhancement, resource efficiency measures, environmental restoration, and climate action initiatives.

 

Strand 2: Environmental Awareness Initiatives Supports activities that promote environmental education, awareness, behavioural change, and community engagement in sustainability and environmental protection. 

What you'll get

Successful applicants may receive financial assistance to support eligible costs directly related to the implementation of approved environmental initiatives. Funding is awarded competitively and subject to budget availability.

 

Funding Available

 

•    Small Grants: Up to €5,000
•    Standard Grants: €5,001 to €10,000

 

Grant Intensity

 

Funding may cover between 60% and 80% of eligible costs, depending on the evaluation score achieved by the application.

 

Eligible Costs May Include:

 

• Initiative coordination and management costs.
• Venue and facility rental.
• Small-scale equipment, plants, tools, and materials.
• Professional and technical services.
• Educational and outreach materials.
• Awareness and communication activities related to the project. 

Eligibility

Applications may be submitted by:

 

• Individuals.
• Voluntary organisations and NGOs.
• Locally registered undertakings.
• Private and church educational institutions.
• Religious institutions.
• Local councils.

 

To be eligible, projects must:


• Be implemented in Gozo.
• Deliver a clear and measurable environmental benefit for Gozo and its residents.
• Fall within one of the scheme's eligible strands.
• Commence only after funding approval.

 

The following are not eligible:

 

• Government ministries, departments, agencies and other public entities.
• State schools and state educational institutions.
