Revalidation of an Existing Certificate of Competence (Commercial Vessels)

Overview

Individuals intending to apply for a Certificate of Competency to be eligible to serve on board commercial vessels operating within ports, internal and territorial waters of Malta.

What you'll get

Revalidation of a Certificate of Competence of:
• Boatman – Dual qualification to act as master and/or engineer of vessels less than 10 metres capable of carrying 12 passengers or less.
• Boat Master Grade 2 – Dual qualification to act as master and/or engineer of vessels less than 12 metres in length and with engines up to 250 kW.
• Boat Master Grade 1 – Master of vessels less than 24 metres in length.
• Mate – Bridge Watch keeper and Deputy Master.
• Master – Master of vessels of 24 metres in length and over.
• Engine Driver Grade 3 – Engineer of vessels with propulsion machinery of maximum continuous power of less than 500 kW.
• Engine Driver Grade 2 – Engineer of vessels with propulsion machinery of maximum continuous power of less than 750 kW.
• Engine Driver Grade 1 – Engineer of vessels with propulsion machinery of maximum continuous power of less than 1500 kW.
• Engineer – Chief Engineer of vessels with propulsion machinery of continuous power of 1500 kW and over. Individuals wanting to revalidate their Certificate of Competency.

Eligibility

To re-apply applicants need to be in possession of a Certificate of Competence and have satisfied the criteria applicable for obtaining such certificate.

How to apply

Print and fill in the form and send to:

Required documents:
i) Certified copy of ID Card or passport
ii) Current original certificate of competency.
iii) Evidence of at least 12 months (which need not be continuous) qualifying service in the preceding 5 years (Application PYD 210).
iv) Current (valid) ancillary requirements as applicable in the training and certification guidance booklet issued under the commercial vessel regulations L.N. 499.23.
v) A Valid Medical fitness certificate (Application PYD 212).
vi) Recent 2 coloured passport size photos.
vii) Fee of €58.23 to be paid upon collection of Certificate of Competence.
