Overview
As from September 2018, the Government introduced free school transport for students attending Church and Independent Schools. Thousands of students attending these schools are eligible to benefit from this scheme.
What you'll get
Over 100 Service Providers have now signed an agreement with the Ministry for Education and Sports to offer free school transport service for students attending non-state schools.
Eligibility
• Students are Maltese residents. (Students in hold of a diplomatic ID Card are to contact school transport unit for further information);
• Students are currently in compulsory school year, that is from Kinder 1 up to Year 11;
• Students reside outside a 1km radius from their primary home address to school.
“Parents holding Maltese nationality whose details are not presently linked to their child are invited to notify the Public Registry by emailing publicregistry.identita@gov.mt.”
How to apply
Parents/ legal guardians are required to apply online for free school transport every year, through a voucher issued by MES. Vouchers of previous years are not automatically renewed. The online application process for scholastic year 2026/2027 will be open from 4th May 2026 and closes on the 31st of August 2026.
After this date users are requested to come to the Ministry to apply at the one stop shop at Great Siege Road, Floriana :
Daily from Monday to Friday between 09:30am till 2:00pm
On Wednesdays between 09:30am till 6:00pm
On Saturdays between 08:00am till 12:00pm
