Overview
The VisitGozo Product Development Scheme supports the creation, enhancement, launch and initial delivery of destination-focused products, experiences and initiatives that strengthen Gozo's identity as a distinctive tourism destination. The scheme also supports initiatives that showcase Gozo in Malta and abroad, contributing to the island's visibility, reputation and attractiveness.
The scheme aims to:
• Support the development of new or enhanced destination products and visitor experiences in Gozo.
• Promote innovation in tourism, cultural, creative and niche market experiences.
• Encourage initiatives that increase visitor demand, overnight stays and off-season tourism.
• Support the representation and promotion of Gozo in Malta and international markets.
• Generate long-term destination value and visibility for Gozo.
The scheme is divided into two strands:
Strand 1: Destination Product Development
Supports the development, enhancement, launch and initial delivery of destination products, services, events and experiences that contribute directly to Gozo's tourism offering.
Strand 2: Destination Representation in Malta and Abroad
Supports participation in events, exhibitions, festivals, competitions, promotional activities and other initiatives that represent, promote or showcase Gozo outside the island.
What you'll get
Successful applicants may receive a grant to support eligible costs directly related to the development and delivery of an approved initiative. Funding is awarded on a competitive basis and is subject to eligibility, evaluation results and budget availability.
Funding Bands
• Small Grants: Up to €5,000
• Standard Grants: €5,001 to €10,000
Grant Intensity
The grant may cover between 60% and 80% of eligible costs, depending on the final evaluation score achieved by the application. Applicants must provide the remaining funding through their own resources or other eligible funding sources.
Eligible Costs May Include:
• Product development and preparation costs.
• Professional and creative fees.
• Venue hire, equipment rental and logistical arrangements.
• Travel and accommodation expenses directly related to the initiative.
• Audiovisual, digital content and documentation production.
• Promotion, communication and visibility activities related to the initiative.
Eligibility
The scheme is open to:
• Individuals, including professionals, creatives, practitioners and promoters.
• Voluntary organisations, NGOs, foundations, associations and sports clubs.
• Locally registered undertakings and businesses.
• Private and church educational institutions.
• Religious institutions, including parishes and similar entities.
• Local councils.
Strand-Specific Eligibility
Strand 1 – Destination Product Development
• Open to eligible applicants as outlined above.
• Supported initiatives must be implemented and delivered in Gozo.
Strand 2 – Destination Representation in Malta and Abroad
• Applicants must be Gozo-based.
• Supported initiatives must clearly demonstrate how they promote, represent or showcase Gozo outside the island.
Not Eligible
The following are not eligible to apply:
• Government ministries, departments, authorities and public entities.
• State schools and state educational institutions.
Important Conditions
• Projects must commence only after funding approval.
• Projects must normally be completed within 12 months from approval.
• Activities already completed before approval are not eligible.
• Double funding of the same costs from multiple public sources is not permitted.
