Overview

According to Subsidiary Legislation 441.07 Trading Licenses Regulations, a licence is required to carry out the business of a credit reference agency. The application for such a licence includes the mandatory requirement to submit several documents and is against a non-refundable fee of 500 Euros. The application will be received by the Trade Licensing Unit but will be scrutinised by the Central Bank of Malta as the supervisor of Credit Reference Agencies. The Bank will issue its recommendation for the issuance of a license or otherwise, within three months from the date of receipt of a complete application. From the date of submission and during the three-month review period, further clarifications, additional information and documentation may be required. The three-month period may be extended for another three months at the Bank’s discretion.

What you'll get

A licence to operate as a Credit Reference Agency which will be valid for five years.

Eligibility

A company formed and registered under Part V of the Companies Act Cap. 386.
