Membership with Malta Libraries

Overview

Malta Libraries is the entity responsible for the National Library and the Central Public Libraries in Malta and Gozo and all the Public Libraries situated in almost every town and village across the islands

What you'll get

As a member with Malta Libraries, you are entitled to borrow library material including eBooks and AudioVisual material, consult our vast collections of Reference material, and make use of other services such as our free Internet and PC services. Moreover, our Online Portal (maltalibraries.gov.mt) allows you to browse through all our collections, and effect Loan Renewals, and Reservations on material that would currently be lent to other borrowers.

Eligibility

Anyone residing in the Maltese Islands including visitors visiting the islands for a short period of time. However, the Online Registration is only applicable to new members holding an official Maltese ID Card or a Maltese Residential Document. All other non-Maltese Nationals need to send an email to our Customer Care on [email protected] to initiate their member registration,

How to apply

Once you submit the enrollment form, you will be sent an email with your temporary membership number and password. Your new Library Card which holds your official Library Membership Number, will then be sent to you by post. You will also receive an Acknowledgement Email containing the link to create your new library password.
 

Alternatively, bearers of a Maltese ID Card or a Maltese Residential Document can also visit any one of our Public Libraries to register themselves on the spot and then be immediately given their new Library card. In that case, new Junior members (aged 17 and under) are to be accompanied by one of their parents when visiting a library for the first time in order to pick up their new Borrower Card. Adults and junior members 14+ need to bring with them their Maltese ID card.
