Home Admission provides residential care service in an emotionally safe and secure environment for senior citizens and persons with disability, who can no longer cope with living in their own homes.
Once the prospective residents are accepted in a residential home, they are invited for an orientation visit. This is done prior to admission. There are many different facilities, which include an en suite bathroom, a nurse call system used in case of emergencies, air-conditioning, telephones in each room for incoming and internal calls, Wi-Fi, communal dining rooms and communal TV/living rooms.
Services include the provision of nursing and other care services, as well as the provision of allied health services. Such services include the service of a team of professionals of Allied Health Professionals and include the services of a physiotherapist, an occupational therapist, a speech therapy and a podiatrist, depending on the needs of the resident. Other services are psychotherapy, geriatric consultancy and the service of a dietitian. These special services are available upon referral from the GP or Home Management. Residents are provided with daily meals including breakfast, lunch and dinner, cleaning services, front desk office services, and hair salon services.
General eligibility criteria:
- A senior citizen over 60 years of age; or
- A senior citizen who suffers from dementia; or
- A senior citizen who needs long term care; or
- A senior citizen who cannot live in his own home environment
General documentation:
- Filled in application form including the medical report by the respective General Practitioner
- Any certificates/medical reports issued from hospital
Once the application is filled and vetted, it is forwarded to the Assessment Team. Communication is then held between the Assessment Team and the applicant in order to find the right date and time for the assessment to be made by a multi-disciplinary team. This team is made up of doctors, nurses, therapists and social workers. In case whereby, the applicant is unable to leave his house because of illness or injury, an assessment will be scheduled at his house. The aim of this assessment is to determine the level of services needed by the applicant and the priority level. During the assessment, advice on necessary services available within the community is also given.
The team analyses these aspects:
- Details about social and clinical well-being
- Difficulties arising from cognitive impairment
- Mobility and Dependency Levels
- Availability of support
Using this information, the multi-disciplinary team then recommends the proper level of care needed, depending also on the medical condition as well as the dependency levels. The team also recommends the priority and urgency of the case. The multi-disciplinary team also fills in a long-term care assessment report which is filed with the application.

When one is admitted into a Residential Home (Level 1 care), fees and charges apply in line with L.N.151 of 2018 regarding State Financed Residential Services Rates Regulations.
With effect from 3rd January 2004, any resident who becomes a resident of such residential service, on or after the coming into force of these regulations, and who is receiving level 1 care, shall contribute 60% of any pension, social assistance and bonus receivable, net of income tax, and 60% of any other income received during the calendar years immediately preceding the year in which the assessment of such other income is made for the purposes of these regulations, net of income tax.
Also, an account shall be taken of the value of any property (excluding the house of residence) which is, or could be, invested or put to profitable use, excluding furniture, jewellery and other personal effects. The value of the property shall be treated as providing an annual income equivalent to 5.5% of its capital value. However, such contribution made by the resident, shall not be such as to leave the resident with less than €1,397.62 per annum at the resident’s disposal.
The contribution from a person who was a resident before 3rd January 2004 will not exceed €24.46 per day, or be such to leave such resident with less than €1,397.62 per annum at the resident’s disposal.
