Overview
The Psychotherapy Profession Board is bound by law to observe the criteria set forth in the Psychotherapy Profession Act (Cap. 587.) when determining whether a person is eligible for warranting and registration in the official register of warranted Psychotherapists and are able to practice the psychotherapy profession in Malta.

The title of Psychotherapist is protected under Maltese law. Only persons who are warranted by the Board for the Psychotherapy Profession in Malta are eligible for the title of Psychotherapist in Malta.
Eligibility
General eligibility criteria:
In terms of the Psychotherapy Profession Act (Cap. 587.) a person shall qualify to obtain a warrant if such person:
- is a citizen of Malta or of the EU, or is otherwise entitled or authorised to work in Malta,
- is of good conduct and moral character,
- has full legal capacity,
- has obtained a bachelor’s degree in a human or social science issued by a higher education institution, which the Minister may, on the advice of the Board, specify in regulations,
- has obtained, to the satisfaction of the Board, training in a specific psychotherapeutic modality for a period of not less than three thousand (3,000) hours, or its equivalent of one hundred and twenty (120) ECTS, which is equivalent to a Master’s degree issued by a higher education institution.
The scanned copies of the original documents submitted with the application are to be dated and signed off by a warranted Professional Psychotherapist, which states that they have seen the original documents and verified the genuity.
