Overview

Media personnel require permission to attend Government activities. Access Cards are issued every 2 years and at the end of the validation period, the applicant must then complete the application and submit it to the department. Holders of access cards do not automatically receive a renewal but must provide a reference letter as proof that they are still employed with and/or provide contributions to a registered media organisation.

What you'll get

Yellow access card for journalists, photographers, camerapersons, etc.

Green access card for technical staff such as riggers, audio persons, technicians, etc.

Eligibility

The following media categories can apply for an access card:

A) Employees of media organisations that run registered television or radio stations, registered newspapers, magazines or other registered publications. A reference letter from the registered editor of your media organisation stating that you are an employee of that particular media organisation, providing news and/or current affairs material is required.

B) Local online news portals are not legally bound to register with the Press Registrar. Employees of media organisations publishing local online news portals that have been active daily for 3 months or longer may also apply. A letter providing information regarding the online news portal registrar, the registrant, the administrative contact of the domain name; and a reference letter from the registrant of the domain name stating that you are an employee of the particular media organisation is required.

C) Freelance journalists, photographers, or camera persons. A reference letter from a registered editor stating that you provide news or current affairs material to be published or broadcast on the registered publication or station is needed.

D) New freelance journalists, photographers, or camera persons. A temporary access card will be given for 3 months. Following this period, a reference letter is to be produced as described in categories C and E respectively.

E) Local correspondents of foreign media organisations. A reference letter from the editor of the foreign media organisation, stating that you provide news or current affairs material that is published or broadcast on the registered publication or station.

F) Foreign media on local assignments. A reference letter from the editor of your media organisation stating that you are an employee of the particular media organisation carrying out duties in Malta, giving the dates of your assignment. A temporary access card will be issued for assignments of less than 3 months.
