Overview

The Ministry for Gozo and Planning, in line with the Budget 2019 Document, will be subsidising travel costs incurred by patients when travelling between the Maltese islands for cancer treatment, renal dialysis, or for surgery at state hospitals. It will also be subsidising accomodation costs.

What you'll get

The subsidy will be provided to the patient and an accompanying adult. It will cover ferry costs and will also help ease the burden of accomodation costs. Both Gozo resident patients travelling to Malta as well as Malta resident patients travelling to Gozo will be entitled.

The ferry tickets of the patient and the accompanying adult (vehicle plus one passenger) will be reimbursed.

Apart from the reimbursement of the ferry tickets, an additional allowance will also be granted to help ease costs associated with accommodation in Malta or Gozo depending on the case: if the appointment at the hospital is before 8:30am and when the patient and the accompanying adult have to find accommodation so that they are already on the island where the appointment is scheduled. This subsidy is capped at €45 per person per night.
