In order to reduce the use of plastic containers utilised for bottling water, the Minister for Finance has launched this grant on the purchase and installation of equipment to purify water at home by reverse osmosis or other processes.

This scheme applies to expenditure incurred once only on the purchase price and installation of purifying water equipment for domestic use by the applicant. The grant is only eligible for private individuals (natural persons) that purchase water purifying equipment for use on their residential property.

Eligible applicants will get a once-only grant of 15.25% on the purchase price and installation of equipment to purify water at home subject to a maximum grant of €70.


Applicants should be Maltese residents of at least 18 years of age, and the application form should be submitted by not later than 3 months from the date of purchase of the water purifying equipment. Persons and households that have already benefitted from this grant shall not be eligible for another grant issued in terms of this scheme. The original fiscal receipts/invoices and relevant documentation shall be kept by the applicant for a period of not less than 2 years from the date of application, and produced upon request to the Commissioner for Revenue for verification purposes. The grant payment will be deposited in the bank account indicated on the application form.
