  • Social Work Service

    When a student utterly refuses to attend school or plays truant from school, the social worker can guide and assist parents and work with and support him/her.
  • Summer Catch Up Sessions

    The Summer Catch-Up Programme 2024 aims in helping students who may need extra help with their studies and those who wish to revise and feel more comfortable and at ease at school. The programme is intended for learners in Years 1 to 10 and is open for all students.
    The Catch-up classes will see to provide revision of work done during the previous scholastic year and is being taught by fully qualified teachers to all students of both primary and secondary level in small year groups. The programme shall be running for eight weeks between July 15th and September 5th on a four-day week.

  • Teacher's Warrant

    After 2 years of practising the teaching profession, teachers who are in possession of a teaching qualification recognised by the Council for Teaching Profession (CTP) are requested to apply for a teacher's permanent warrant in terms of Article 24.

    Persons who are in possession of a Master's degree or a comparable degree and have registered for such qualification prior to 29 July 2008 may also apply for a permanent warrant in terms of Article 41. Persons who prior to the 29 July 2008 have practised the teaching profession for at least 8 years in a school may also apply for a permanent warrant in terms of Article 41 on completion of 15 years teaching experience.
  • Temporary Warrant for Teachers

    Teachers teaching in compulsory education are requested by Law to be in possession of at least a temporary warrant.
  • The Magic of Stories

    The Magic of Stories/Seħer l-Istejjer is a family literacy programme intended for children between 4 and 7 years of age, and their parents/guardians. The primary aim of this programme is to promote a love of reading among children and their parents/guardians. Weekly sessions are held free of charge, during which several stories are read in a fun and motivating environment, to stimulate children’s imagination. These sessions are being held in primary schools, in public libraries, local councils, parish centres and open spaces in Malta and in Gozo.

  • The Pleasure of Reading

    The Pleasure of Reading/Gost il-Qari is a family literacy programme for children aged 7 to 11 years together with their parents/guardians. The programme consists of one-hour reading sessions which are held once a week. These sessions are held in primary schools and in the community.
    Each session features the sharing of stories from a variety of books, and other fun activities for this age group. Besides enhancing the listener’s reading, the animated reading session provides a means for passing on information, identifying with and empathising with others. The Reading Animator colours the way the listener shapes the story, uses rich oral language, and allows participating children to express themselves by creating a play and multisensory experience. The children understand that the story has a sequence of events where a problem is posed, and consequently, together as a group they try to solve the problem by finding solutions through discussion and role play.

  • Transition Co-ordinator

    Students with individual educational needs who are in Year 11 and their parents are supported by a transition coordinator in exploring post-secondary opportunities. The coordinator attends individual educational programme meetings, prepares action plans, organises orientation visits, and ensures the best educational or employment options for each student. 
  • Youth Fitness Support Scheme

    The Ministry for Education, Sport, Youth, Research, and Innovation is committed to fostering a healthier lifestyle among youths in Malta and Gozo. Recognising the need to promote physical activity and well-being, the Ministry has the developed the Youth Fitness Support Scheme (YFSS). 

    This initiative targets youths born between 2005 and 2007, offering them six months of free gym membership. The scheme aligns with national priorities for health promotion and youth development, aiming to create a culture of health-consciousness among young citizens while reducing public health costs in the long term.
