The Commission for the Rights of Persons with Disability (CRPD)’s main responsibility is to safeguard Cap 627 of the Laws of Malta the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) Act. Amongst the rights of persons with disabilities under the UNCRPD Act, is the right of access to public spaces.
CRPD has published the Access for All Design Guidelines (AADG) 2011 which lays out what Malta considers as accessible within public spaces and buildings. In 2019, Malta has also elevated the standard SM 3800:2015, "Accessibility for All in the Built Environment", to the status of Subsidiary Legislation under Cap 413 of the Laws of Malta the Equal Opportunities (Persons with Disabilities) Act.
Nevertheless, persons with disabilities are still encountering barriers in terms of physical accessibility. For this scope, this form can be used by persons with disabilities and their families to report public spaces which are not accessible to all.
