Non-Contributory benefits

  • Age Pension (DSS)

    An Age Pension may be awarded to a person who reaches 60 (sixty) years of age; does not have enough paid or credited Social Security Contributions to be eligible for a Contributory Retirement Pension, while needs to satisfy the Means Test.
  • Assistance for the Visually Impaired (DSS)

    The Assistance for the Visually Impaired may be awarded to a person who is between fourteen (14) years and under sixty-five (65) years of age, who is completely or partially visually impaired. 

  • Carer's Allowance (DSS)

    The Carer’s Allowance may be awarded to a single, married, in civil union, or cohabiting person who is over eighteen (18) years of age and is taking care of one (1) or two (2) relatives, with low dependency, on a full-time basis living within the same household. As of January 2025, persons who are caring for more than one patient, may apply for Carer’s Allowance on both patients by submitting an application together with the medical report filled in by a Medical Practitioner for each patient and will have their payment rate increased by fifty percent (50%).

  • Carer's Grant (DSS)

    The Carer’s Grant was introduced as from the 1st January 2021 as per budget measures. This grant is awarded to a parent who is not in employment so as to take care of a child or children with a disability over sixteen (16) years of age and in receipt of an Increased Severe Disability Assistance. 

  • Disability Assistance (DSS)

    A Disability Assistance may be awarded to a person with a disability who is between sixteen (16) years and under sixty-five (65) years of age, suffering from either a total paralysis or a permanent total severe malfunction, or else a permanent total disability through the amputation of one of the upper or lower limb. The Disability Assistance is also awarded to a person who has a hearing and/or speech impairment.

  • Drug Addict Assistance (DSS)

    The Drug Addict Assistance may be awarded to a person who is following a drug or alcohol rehabilitation therapeutic program. The Drug Addict Assistance is not Means Tested. 

  • Increased Carer's Allowance (DSS)

    The Increased Carer’s Allowance may be awarded to a single, married, in civil union, or cohabiting person who is over eighteen (18) years of age and is taking care of one (1) or two (2) relatives, with high dependency, living within the same household on a full-time basis. As of January 2025, persons who are caring for more than one patient, may apply for Increased Carer’s Allowance on both patients by submitting an application together with the medical report filled in by a Medical Practitioner for each patient and will have their payment rate increased by fifty percent (50%).

  • Increased Severe Disability Assistance (DSS)

    An Increased Severe Disability Assistance may be awarded to a person who is sixteen (16) years of age and over and is absolutely unable to work.
  • Severe Disability Assistance (Intellectual) (DSS)

    A Severe Intellectual Disability Assistance may be awarded to a person with a mental and general learning disability who is between sixteen (16) years and under sixty-five (65) years of age, and can be engaged in a gainful occupation.

  • Severe Disability Assistance (Physical) (DSS)

    A Severe Disability Assistance may be awarded to a person with a physical disability who is between sixteen (16) years and under sixty-five (65) years of age, and can be engaged in a gainful occupation.
