  • ​Children’s ​Allowance and Child Birth or Adoption Bonus – Annual Income less than Threshold - DSS

    Children’s Allowance is awarded to married couples, civil union couples, cohabiting couples, single parents, separated parents or returned migrants, having the care and custody of their children under 16 years of age and whose total annual income of relevant year (two (2) years prior to current year e.g. Children’s Allowance 2023 – Income 2021) from employment / social security is less than twenty-five thousand and nine-hundred and twenty-four euro (€25,924).

  • A Once-Only Grant for Police Officers who Performed “Overtime” between 1st September, 1993 and 31st December, 2009

    In order to implement one of the measures identified in Budget 2017, the Prime Minister, the Minister for Finance and the Minister for Home Affairs and National Security have developed the following Scheme that aims to provide a once-only Grant for “overtime” performed by police officers between 1st September, 1993 and 31st December, 2009.
  • Adoption Benefit (DSS)

  • Adoption Leave Benefit (DSS)

    The Adoption Leave Benefit may be awarded to a person who adopts a child.
  • Age Pension (DSS)

    An Age Pension may be awarded to a person who reaches 60 years of age, who does not have enough paid or credited Social Security Contributions to be eligible for a Contributory Retirement Pension and satisfies the Means Test.
  • Appeal against a Decision by the Department of Social Security (DSS)

    An appeal may be lodged by a Maltese or non-Maltese national against a decision by the Department of Social Security before the Social Security Umpire. One may lodge an appeal on a question of law or a principle of importance emerging from a decision by the Department of Social Security according to the Social Security Act (Cap. 318.). The appeal must to be lodged within 30 days from when one is informed of the decision.

    Once the details are vetted a notification with the date of the sitting in front of the umpire is sent.

  • Application - Monitoring (DSS)

    The focus of this service is to provide details of current and active benefits, as well as pending benefits awaiting assessment and authorisation by the Department of Social Security.
  • Appointment of an Administrator or Agent of an Administrator for Pensions and Benefits (DSS)

    The form is used for the appointment of an Administrator to act on behalf of a person with mental or another disability, and also on behalf of a person under 18 years who cannot act on his/her own behalf. An administrator can also accept to appoint a person to act as an Agent on his behalf.
  • Banking Details (DSS)

    Through this service, you can change the Banking Details of how you are receiving your benefit or update your banking details held by the department. If you are currently receiving benefit payments by cheque, you may change your details to start receiving payments by direct deposit in a bank. If you are already receiving your payments by direct bank deposits, you may change both the bank as well as the account number (IBAN).

    You can also opt to receive a payment notification via SMS when your benefit has been deposited. Through this service, you cannot change your banking details to start receiving cheque payments.

  • Benefit Certification - Foreign Beneficiaries (DSS)

    If you are a Social Security beneficiary in receipt of a Retirement Pension, Invalidity Pension, or Widow/er’s Pension from the Department of Social Security of Malta and currently residing and being paid abroad, you can generate your Benefit Rate Certificate online.
