Social Housing

  • Nikru Biex Nassistu Scheme

    The purpose of this scheme is that of encouraging private owners of vacant and finished residential property with one, two or three bedrooms to enter into a lease agreement with the Housing Authority for a period of 10 years.
  • Equity Sharing Scheme - 2019

    This scheme is intended for those applicants who are unable to purchase their residence without the help of Housing Authority.
  • First Time Buyers' Scheme

    Those acquiring their first property and which is intended for their sole ordinary residence are eligible for the exemption from duty on the first €150,000 of the value of the property.
  • Grant to Assist Owners in the Construction and/or Completion or Rehabilitation of their First Home (Scheme GFR)

    Grants under this scheme are intended as part compensation of expenditure in respect of the cost of construction and/or completion or rehabilitation works on first dwelling house. The owners of first residences, who due to an increase in the number of family members they require to construct additional rooms or carry out various alterations to their premises, are entitled for a grant under this scheme.
  • Home Assist Scheme BOV​​

    The Housing Authority, in collaboration with Bank of Valletta p.l.c (the Bank) and the Foundation for Social Welfare Services, will be participating in a scheme to assist persons to purchase a property for residential and personal use, and therefore become home owners.
  • Lifts Installation Scheme (Scheme LFT)

    The aim of the Housing Authority is to, where it is physically possible, install lifts in Government owned residential blocks. Therefore the Housing Authority receives applications for the installation of lifts in blocks/entrances of apartment in Malta or Gozo, which are occupied by tenants recognised by the Government.
  • Private Rent Housing Benefit Scheme

    This Scheme provides a housing benefit to tenants on rent paid for premises leased as ordinary residence of the applicants and their family thus rendering the rent more affordable.
  • Redemption of Ground Rent (Scheme P)

    A beneficiary of the Lands Department may apply for the redemption of ground rent burdening plots of land granted on temporary emphyteusis, or on temporary emphyteusis later on converted into a perpetual one or on perpetual emphyteusis under the Home Ownership Scheme (HOS) by the Commissioner of Land prior to 1979.
  • Registration of a Private Residential Lease Contract

    As from 1 January 2020, lease contracts for a primary residential purpose must be registered by the owner with the Housing Authority within 10 days from the commencement of the lease.
  • Sir Sid Darek 2014 (Scheme SSD)

    This scheme caters for tenants who would like to become home owners. This scheme gives the opportunity to residents of apartments or terraced houses and maisonettes owned by the Housing Authority and the Government Property Department to become owners and continue using the property as their ordinary residence.
