Maritime Transport

  • Bunker Operator Permit

    This form is used by any individuals or companies/business entities interested in carrying out bunkering operations within ports, internal and territorial waters of Malta. It is applicable for new and existing operators interested in renewing their permit. Bunkering operations may be carried out through bunkering terminals, bunker barges and/or road tankers.
  • Certificate of Proficiency as Ship Security Officer (Issue 1)

    Application for a ship security officer certificate.
  • Commercial Vessel Operator Licence

    Registered companies or individuals wanting to operate a commercial vessel within ports, internal and territorial waters around Malta are to apply by using this form.
  • Daily Commuter Travel Card

    If you travel frequently between Malta and Gozo, the Daily Commuter Card is ideal for you. Valid for 3 months, the pre-paid Daily Commuter Card offers very advantageous rates.
  • Declaration for a Loss of a Registration Certificate for Small Ships

    An applicant is to fill in this form when applying for a re-issue of a lost registration certificate for a small ship registered under his/her name.

    The re-issued document is to be returned if the lost document is found.
  • Endorsement Certificate for Officers Serving on a Maltese Ship

    Application for endorsement attesting the recognition of a certificate of competency for service under the provisions of STCW Convention as amended.
  • Frequent Travel Card

    As of 1st June 2004, customers will be offered the choice of availing themselves of a Frequent Traveller Scheme when commuting between the islands. The Frequent Traveller Scheme will be applicable to either the individual in conjunction with any standard car (under 5 metres), or to a standard car to be used with any driver (the latter option may be particularly suited to the needs of small businesses sending different sales reps to Gozo). The photograph of the driver or the registration number and make of the car will be shown on the pass as applicable.

    This scheme is also applicable to foot passengers, in which case the photo of the card holder will also be printed on the card.

     

  • Global Maritime Distress and Safety System

    The person operating Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) equipment is required under the International Maritime Organisation, Safety of Life at Sea (IMO SOLAS) convention to hold a certificate to prove competences (knowledge and practical skills) to operate GMDSS equipment. In the maritime sector, operators can hold 1 of the following radio certificates:
    - GOC (General Operator’s Certificate): required on SOLAS vessels operating also outside GMDSS Sea Area A1,
    - ROC (Restricted Operator’s Certificate): required on SOLAS vessels operating only within GMDSS Sea Area A1,
    - LRC (Long Range Certificate): required on non SOLAS vessels operating also outside GMDSS Sea Area A1,
    - SRC (Short Range Certificate): required on non SOLAS vessels operating only within GMDSS Sea Area A1,
    - VHF (Restricted radiotelephone operator's certificate (Very High Frequency): a certificate similar to SRC that proves only the competence to operate a VHF DSC radio - in some countries it is not recognised.

    Certificates are issued by national agencies based on examination.
  • Individual Provisional Ship Station Licence (Non-SOLAS ships)

    ​In terms of the Electronic Communications (Regulation) Act (Cap. 399), an individual licence is required for the installation or use of equipment, on vessels which do not fall under the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) Convention such as pleasure yachts/fishing vessels, unless the equipment is licence exempt or is regulated by a general authorisation. Non-compliance with this requirement is a breach of the said Act.
  • Individual Ship Station Licence

    In terms of the Electronic Communications (Regulation) Act (Cap. 399), an individual licence is required for the installation or use of equipment, unless the equipment is licence exempt or is regulated by a general authorisation. Non-compliance with this requirement is a breach of the said Act.
